Dahl knew that what children want in literature is the opposite of what they want in life."

A fabulous piece on the relativism of James and the Giant Peach... and was Roald Dahl an absolute sod?

  1. I'd read somewhere that Dahl was an absolute sod. Reading this article about all the greed and unpleasantness in his stories was a little disturbing, given how many of them I read and loved as a child (though for me it wasn't James and the Giant Peach, more the BFG, The Twits and Danny Champion of the World). I remember being terrified by The Witches and having to tell my parents I didn't want to read it any more!
